This Partnership is a Formula for Talent Acquisition Success
According to a recent survey, Minnesota manufacturers expect mostly unchanged conditions in 2023.* This means employee staffing is still a top concern. So your human resources (HR) team – as the primary contact and resource for potential new hires and current team members – needs a full arsenal of tools, including your marketing team, to acquire and retain top talent.
During a recent How to Take Control of the Workforce Crisis webinar from Packaging Machinery Manufacturers Institute, Patty Anderson, Co-Owner and VP of HR at Delkor Systems in Arden Hills, Minnesota, said employers must figure out how to creatively find ways to target employees with unemployment at the lowest it’s been since 1969. HR is no longer just about benefits and administration – it is an extension of business and marketing strategy. The status quo no longer works for differentiating your company from all the other internet job postings.
I’ve seen this to be true for many of my clients. To succeed, collaborations between HR and communications/marketing teams are creating social media hiring campaigns and acquisition, hiring and onboarding process documents – and it’s working.
LinkedIn is the world’s largest professional network and their data shows that 101 job applications are submitted every second via the site. That’s 6,060 applications sent every minute. And the combined connections of employees is 10x larger than a company’s page followers.
With current employees being your brand’s best ambassadors, how can your HR team take advantage of this opportunity? By providing content that employees can easily share with their followers.Marketing/communications-created, pre-approved, relevant content is an efficient and effective way to engage employees AND help your recruiting efforts.
Social media is just one tool in an HR marketing toolkit. Here are the most effective marketing resources that can help meet your employee hiring and retention goals:
- Develop a social media strategy and campaign to promote hiring with coordinated, complementing digital assets
- Drive potential candidates to a polished website and blog as a funnel from social media campaigns
- Showcase your company’s culture and make sure your messaging addresses matters that are important to job seekers
- Streamline your process by creating interview and onboarding toolkitsfor management and new hires to follow, which will also help with retention
- Create well-designed open enrollment and new hire guides that are easy to read and understand
- Engage employees by hosting team building exercises, lunch & learns or events at a local food shelf, as an example
An example of a successful marketing and HR partnership is a project I created and designed for Minnetronix Medical. I created digital assets for a social media campaign along with an Onboarding Toolkit with a checklist for both management and new employees to follow.

The “Impact 2021” campaign launched the first week of March 2021 and the response was tremendous, quickly meeting their hiring goal! They did it by giving employees the tools and information to easily tell their social media networks why Minnetronix was a great place to work. This employee endorsement campaign helped the company meet their goal of hiring 100 employees during the pandemic. Click here to see the full Case Study.
