Open Enrollment is Coming Up! Are you ready?
Here are 4 Tips for Creating Effective Benefit Guides
To prepare for the open enrollment season and facilitate employee understanding, consider implementing the following strategies:
- Encourage employee involvement. Consider asking for their input in selecting and implementing benefits. Seek input through surveys, suggestion boxes, or feedback sessions to understand their needs and preferences. This helps ensure that the benefits offered are relevant and valuable to employees. It can even help with cost analysis/determining which benefits could be changed.
- Develop a comprehensive marketing communications plan. Create compelling branded material to inform employees about their benefits. A consistent design means employees will easily associate it with benefits information and keep it for further reference.Utilize benefit administration platforms to generate relevant facts (which are often available for free) and regularly update employees with timely reminders using various tools, e.g., emails, postcard mailings, electronic or paper handouts, etc.
- Simplify messaging and make it relatable. The amount of information and the importance to employees’ overall pay and benefits package can be overwhelming. So crafting clear and concise messages that are easy to understand –while avoiding using industry jargon and technical terms – is essential. Emphasize the unique aspects of the benefits being offered and how they address the specific needs of the workforce. Infographics, examples and art can help illustrate concepts.
- Share employee success stories. Highlight success stories of employees who have benefited from the available programs. These can be shared through various mediums, such as testimonials, videos or in-person presentations.Encourage employees with positive experiences to become brand and benefit ambassadors who can share stories and inspire their colleagues to participate in the enrollment process.
Remember, the specific implementation of these strategies will depend on the nature and culture of your organization. It’s important to tailor your approach to meet the needs and preferences of your employees.
